Hello
I own a 15" screen Macbook pro running Mac OS X version 10.4.11 with a 2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. Memory - 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.
Recently when waking the computer from sleep, it makes the "waking from sleep noise", and the fan starts, but the screen stays black. This forces me shut it down. When it restarts, the error message is that the computer had to restart after Mac OS X quit unexpectedly.
I'm usually using Garageband, iTunes and Firefox before putting it to sleep.
I'd really appreciate your help, as i'm not sure where i've put the documentation I need for support from Apple!
Thank you
Matt

The OS X is not quitting because of the problem, It's quitting because you have to force quit your MacBook Pro - and you shouldn't need to do that, eh?
Maybe this will work -
If you get the black display, don't do anything for about 30 seconds, then close the display lid.
Wait for the sleep LED to start blinking - give it 30 seconds or so to begin blinking.
Then, open the display again. If the display then lights up, then you should be good.
If you don't get sleep, then try again.
If you still don't get sleep, then find a service shop. You may have a sensor that is not working....

Hello Dale
A fair point - because it's the Mac making me force quit, i'm putting all responsibility on it :-)
I tried something similar to your suggestion once, and the LED went solidly lit (as opposed to glowing on and off as usual) until I lift the lid again, with the screen remaining black.
I will try your suggestion properly next time and report back, as well as avoiding putting it to sleep of course...
Thank you
Matt
