Somehow I have caused my address book to open only in grayscale which will not allow any editing or adding new addresses. It will let me close if I hit the area (even not light)in the left top cor. I clicked one time on the green dot in left cornoer and it enlarged to full window. I can't get it it return from that either. Any help would be great. Thanks gene

Hi and welcome to macosx.com
Could try to repair permissions on your startup drive as described here:
http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/repairprocess.html
May I hope that, by accident, you have not rename your home folder, i.e. changing the name of your Home icon you see on the left pane of a Finder window ?

Thanks for information. I tried the disk utility without using CD and it came up with permissions complete. So apparently no problem. As for name change I haven't renamed anything. I am a 75 yr senior that isn't very adpt on this computer stuff ,but will try to use the disk(when I can get someone to help me) to see if that solves the problem. I think what I did was when mail was open and I clicked on the green button to expand address book I then clicked the red button closing the full page display and should have clicked green to return to size and then it would have quit when quit mail .Apparently the full window is still open & I don't know how to file quit when it is displayed. Sorry about this long mail but trying to explain all I can. Thanks Gene

(1) With Applications/FontBook application, could you check if the Helvetica font is enabled ?
(2) quit AdressBook application; from the folder ~/Library/Preferences (where ~ means your Home folder), move the follwing files
com.apple.AddressBook.abd.plist
com.apple.AddressBook.plist
to the Desktop (a backup in case of..) and restart AdressBook
To go the theses files, on a Finder window, select on the left your Home folder, the one with the Home icon.
Then in the column which appears on the right, click on Library, then on the new column on the right, click on Preferences
(note: Address Book stores it's data in:
~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook)

Helvetica font is enabled after a check but now the fontbook icon has taken residence on my dock apparently no problem. Ref the other 2 files there was one only that was named com.apple.addressbook,plist.Never found the other one anywhere. I removed it but didn't figure out where I quit or restart address book. I thank you for your time etc,but at this point I think I will quit trying to recover it in my mail system and can just put in any new addresses I get when I want to send mail. I don't think I will be getting too many more than already in my grey box that does allow me to use them. I'm in Panama City ,Fl and the closest mac store or service is appox 100 miles away so I will just live with this for now. I think I am the only Mac person in this area as for past 6yrs haven't found another user yet. Thank again & . I may someday try to do a clean install as not much data stored anyway. have a great day & I again say a BIG thank you. Gene Godwin
