I have been trying in vain for some time now to rip DVD content to a VIDEO_TS folder using Mac the Ripper. Once I do this, I open the folder and attempt to open the content with QuickTime - no luck.

Then I try to open it with DVD Player - again, no luck. My computer (PowerBook G4) simply won't recognize it, as far as I can tell. It says "DVD Player encountered a system error: Could not detect a valid media file. [-70001]"

What am I doing wrong? Thank you for your time.

Hi and welcome to macosx.com

(1) which method do you use in MTR to create the VIDEO_TS ? Full disc mode extraction ? Main feature ? Title ?
Try full disc mode.

(2) could you try to use VLC media player (www.videolan.org), which has more codecs than DVDPlayer/QT; if VLC fails, two possibilities:

* an special video codec used to code the video that VLC is not aware of... very rare
* MTR 2.6* extraction problems which can arrive with modern commercial DVDs using special encryption feature (like PuppettLock); only MTR 3.0* can get rid of them; MTR 3 is not a freeware anymore; see http://www.mactheripper.org/
