I have the white 13" macbook with built in iSight. I recently did a clean install of Tiger as the machine had got a bit bloated. I did a custom install as I did not want most of the stuff that OS X insrtalls by default. The machine is otherwise fine and fast, but the iSight built in camera is not recognised. Now surely even though I did a reformat, the hardware should be seen. It does not show up under the USB part of system profiler. I tried a PMU and a SMC reset which changed nothing.
No apps (iMovie, iChat, photobooth) se the iSight
Can anyone help? Many thanks, Steve.
What exactly is the "stuff" you did not install when you reinstalled OS X? Could you, by any remote chance not have installed the drivers for iSight? That option does exist, because for Macbooks in secure locations, an iSight is the last thing you want to see (sorry about the pun). I would try a full reinstall of OS X and if that doesn't work, you have a hardware problem and would need an AppleCare fix.
BTW, you're trying to run 10.4.8 with the bare minimum of RAM. Adding a GB of RAM (you may have to take out one of the 256 MB RAM chips) will have an amazing effect on the speed of all operations on your Macbook. It's like a whole new machine. No kidding, and memory prices are at an all time low. You can get a GB of RAM for a MacBook from OWC (macsales.com) and many other reputable vendors for <$50.
HTH and please let us know what happens. Thanks.
