My macbook is not starting properly. it starts but shows a gray screen with first an apple logo, then a circle with a line (non smoking type) and then a briefcase with a question mark. Can you help?

Thank you for the address for the article. Unfortunately I was not able to use the "option start" with any success. i inserted the start up CD and went to utilities and disk repair but it was unable to repiar the disk. Now the CD is in the computer and I can't get it out. Should I just take it in to where I purchashed it as it is only2 months old. I have no idea how this could have happened. I used it quite successfully the day before.

You should definitely take the MacBook to the store where you bought it. They should know how to help you.
All the best,
Allan

Thank you. I have taken it to the store where I purchased it and they are now running a diagnostic check.
