I downloaded an application to adjust my laptops fans with hopes of getting the machine to run cooler. It does run cooler, but the fans are very loud now. I deleted the application and assumed the fans would return to their normal setting but they did not. How can i get them back to default? Thanks.

Hello and thanks for using macosx.com - I will see if I can help you here.
I suspect you will need to reset the PRAM and possibly the power manager...
The PRAM is easiest to do so try that first... reboot the Mac and as soon as you hear the startup chime hold down the Apple-Alt-P-R keys and keep holding them till you hear the startup chime a second time, some people say till a third chime just to be really sure - I don't think that is necessary but it will not do any harm!
If that does not work you will probably need to reset the SMC - different models have different ways to do this instructions for the MacBook Pro are here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303319
