My Macbook no longer reads CD's/DVD's. When I insert a CD the drive starts making a repetitive ticking/clicking noise and then after a while it starts making a groaning sound and ejects the CD...

I have tried with a range of CDs/DVDs and same issue.

Thanks for any help.

Your optical drive is failing. Get it replaced. If your MacBook is less than one year old, or you have the extended AppleCare, then Apple will replace it at no charge.
