I have a MacOs 9.1 (G4 Power Mac) that I have had since 2001. I know that its kinda old but I have upgraded to MacOsX and back again twice about 2 years ago.Last night, I tried to redownload my UMAX scanner software again after not having had to do that in like 2 years and once it installed, it froze. When I restarted the computer, the little flashing ? came up in the center (as it has before) but this time, it did not recognize my power mac installer. It asked if I wanted to "initialize" but if I did, it would erase the disk so I hit "cancel". Then when I was able to see the installer and tried to install, it said "Volume Macintosh HD could not be mounted". I clicked on the "Disk first aid" and it read,"Test done, problems were found but disk first aid cannot repair them"."Invalid PEOF, 666850,15655". I do not know what this means ad I have a lot of music and photos that are irreplaceable. Is ther any way to repair this? Please help me!! I cannot afford a new computer nor can I bare to lose my pics and music!! I really appreciate if you can help me with this and even if you cant help. Thank you so very much!! :-)

Sincerely yours,
Laurie (Artstruction)

Hi Laurie

Invalid PEOF means end of file. Not good for your problem.

There are a couple programs that may be able to repair the drive;

DiskWarrior;

http://www.alsoft.com

and

TechTool Pro;

http://www.micromat.com

My choice would be Diskwarrior.
