macosx external usb iomega superdrive dvd burner stopped recognizing blank dvds
I have a g4 12-inch powerbook. I have nurmed dvds before with these two ( iomega external burner and powerbook) but now powerbook recognizes the external iomega but DOS NOT RECOGNIZE THE BLANK DVDS. KEEPS TELLING ME THERE IS NO BLANK DVD IN IOMEGA.
HOW CAN I SOLVE THIS? I used to manage extension conflicts on pre-macosX. I am suspecting somethings conflicting but I dont know how to figure out? help pls

I am no scholar on burning dvds but a couple of things come to mind that might be worth considering:
1. What did you install and/or do with the p'book between your last successful burn and now?
2. Have you tried reinstalling the Iomega software?
3. Have you considered trying to use Toast to see if that program will recognize the blanks?
4. I assume you have repaired your permissions, no? (Disk Utility-->First Aid--->select your hard drive--->click on REPAIR PERMISSIONS on lower left of right section.

I did all 4 things. I have recently installed 10.4.6 update and then this all started. Neither toast 6 nor dvd2onex recognizes the blanks. Though I can open and close the tray within toast. but is keeps telling "no disk in the tray". I tried to install 10.4.3 and 10.4.5 updates for macos x. I got a message that the hard drive is not allowed ( I suppose I have later version(10.4.6).
thanx for the response

Just a thought but it sounds like Mac OS update broke Toast, Have you checked for Toast updates.

I tried same options with toast 7. and I have the same resluts. I tried discribe 5.1 and "simplyburn" software, all of them are giving me the same answer, they recognize the drive ( because i can open and close the tray of my external usb dvd writer from iomega) yet do not recognize the blank dvd.
Any one knows how to roll back to previous update combos??? I have now 10.4.6.
10.4.5 or 10.4.4 will work with my dvd burner i suppose.

Roxio have updates for Toast on their support page
http://www.roxio.com/en/support/software_updates.jhtml you should try the relevant updates first.
I do not know of a method for rolling back an update on Mac OS its been on my wish list for years, something like system restore in Windows XP.
