I use a proxy server running on a Windows2000 Server @ work. I am able to connect to the server and transfer files with success it seems, however all of the files I add to the server [from OSX.4.2] seem to duplicate.
For example, if I add a tiff image to the Windows server all of the Windows users will see two files [one slightly grayed, or "ghosted" and one that looks normal].
Why is there a "ghosted" duplicate file, and will all users [MAC+PC] be able to access the file ok if the "ghost" file is deleted? Should it be deleted?
Also I seem to be having trouble transferring .psd photoshopcs files to the Windows Server. Any suggestions?
cheers,
chase
Is the ghosted file the same name as the original file, but with a ._ in front of it?
If so, that's the shadowfile and it contains OS X specific data. You don't want to delete these files. If you were using an OS X Server, specifically a HFS+ formatted volume, the file would transfer as a full, unified file, instead of splitting it in two.
