1. Yesterday I allowed an update of Stuffit Expander from ver. 10.0.1 to 10.0.2. Today, I can't open Mail. (The icon bobs up and down in the dock and then appears to be open, but the application does not actually open. I then have to do a force quit to get the dock icon back to normal.)
2. Then, following the advice I found on a forum, I tried to use Disk Utility to "repair permissions". But when I double-clicked my hard drive to select it, the arrow pointer turned into a spinning "wait" icon and just stayed that way. I had to force quit Disk Utility too.
3. Also, I suddenly cannot copy or paste text to/from TextEdit. What's happening to my Powerbook?
(And is there some way to back up all the emails that I archived on my hard drive? I don't keep my emails or contacts in the online storage that Mail likes to use as a default.)
You might need to repair your hard disk. Startup from your OS X Install Disc and open Disk Utility and Repair Disk.
All of your Mail is stored in the /Home/Library/Mail folder. Address Book data is in /Home/Library/Application Support/AddressBook.
