When using mail, I select the option for new mail and you get two options "show stationery" and "photo browser" on the right hand side of the new mail window.

When I select the "photo browser" option the window comes up and I get an error message "Open iPhoto 5 or later to see photos from your iPhoto Library in this list"

1) I have a large iPhoto Library so it is stored on an external hard drive.

2) I am running OS X 10.5.2

If you create an iPhoto Library on the startup disk (hold Option when opening iPhoto) and then restart Mail, does Mail recognize this one when you click Photo Browser? (You can also spawn Photo Browser from the Window menu.) Do other apps that integrate with iPhoto have this trouble? (other iLife apps, iWork apps). If the former worked and you then switch back to your regular library, does it work again?

If a create a new iPhoto Library on the internal drive in the photo's folder the photo browser works no problem at all

And what about when you switch back? And what about other apps' behaviors with this?

Sorry for the delay as soon as I delete the iPhoto folder of the internal drive the problem comes back again all other iLife apps seem to be working ok all though they do seem to have to think about it now i.e. the intergration seems to be slower

Reading Apple Discussions, this may be a bug in Mail. Recommend you send Apple feedback on the issue. There may be no solution but to wait for Apple to release an update to Mac OS X that solves it. Might cross-populate your feedback by sending about iPhoto in addition to Mac OS X.

Is a workaround solution to use the Mail button in iPhoto to send pictures? or are you trying to use Stationery?

The only way I can use it is to copy the photos to the desktop then drop them onto the stationery which seems to work - thanks for your help have sent feedback hope there is an update soon
