I have a mac OSX 10.49 and have downloaded Messenger for mac 6.o.2.
I can send text emails with still photo but I cannot get any live footage and neither can the other party.
If I could get a solution to this Problem it would be great as my mum in England has just got a web cam hooked up to a friends computer so we can see each other after 8 years. Or do i have to buy a P.C. to make it work do Macs not talk to p c s via that method?.
Thanks Stephen

Dear Stephen,
My name is Vinko and I will attempt to assist you.
The problem you're facing has nothing to do with your Mac or Mac OS. It has everything to do with Microsoft's inability to write software that are compatible to their own products on different platforms.
I would suggest both you and your mom use
Skype to communicate with live video and voice. Skype was written to be cross platform, although after eBay's purchase of them, their service quality had dramatically degraded.
The other alternative VoIP software would be
Gizmo Project, but I believe they have yet to incorporate the video feature. Although, Gizmo project does allow you to voice chat with Gizmo, Yahoo and MSN user.
I hope this helps.

Thank you for using MacOSX.Com's free Mac support.

Dear Stephen,
Thank you for your email.
When you speak of Windows Vista, that's all together another problem. It itself is a major problems for various software out there. Many popular software are not compatible with Windows Vista.
If you need to work with people whose computer are running Windows Vista, you do not have any solutions.
I am sorry.

Dear Stephen,
Alternatively, you can upgrade your Mac to an Intel Macintosh and then install Windows XP onto
Parallels Desktop for Mac on your Mac.
That may be a better choice.
I hope this helps.

Dear Stephen,
Thank you for your reply.
When you say, "... some kind of phone for 30 pounds...", you must be talking about a VoIP phone. That does not solve your video problem.
BTW: VoIP phones are dime a dozens around here in Asia (Hong Kong). It is nothing special, but that is more for layman users. Especially not someone who already has a Mac.
You can do voice with any MSN users via the MSN Client for Mac or any of the many IM Consolidator clients, like
Adium.Plus the VoIP client Gizmo Project that I told you about before.
