Description:
My mic port seems to be dead. I have tried 2 different mics, made sure input was mic and not cdrom , made sure mic was not mutted in control panel, and made sure sound extention was enabled. Is there anything else I should be looking at before I determine the port is dead? Sound works fine.

Raymond,

Be certain that you're using a Plaintalk-compatible or line-level capable microphone. The mic that came with your machine is such a mic. Most off the shelf PC mics will not work with the Macintosh. If you want to use such a mic you'll have to either make or purchase a pre-amp. http://www.nashville.net/~griffin/mic_main.html offers a Mac pre-amp.

If you are using a compatible microphone then there's a good chance the port is dead. You'll have to take the machine to an Apple Authorized Service Center to be certain. If you have any questions, feel free to email me.
