Trying to view an article on the Internet, I get a message that says I don't have the MIME plug in for "application/x-wmplayer." I have an imac and use safari. What's the solution? laero

Dear Larry,

My name is Vinko and I will attempt to assist you.

What you are missing is the Windows Media Player. Since Microsoft had discontinued the support for the Windows Media Player plugin on the Mac, they have passed on the WMA/WMV plugin support on the Mac to Flip4Mac.

I see that you have an Intel Mac, so what you need to install is the Flip4Mac Component for Macintosh.

I hope this helps.

Regards,

-- Vinko

Thank you for using MacOSX.Com's free Mac support.

Hi Vinko!
I originally wrote because my imac could not play a video and gave me this response:

The page “God's News Behind the News - Airdate 05-27-08: IPC '08 - CanAmeriCo - Part 3” has content of MIME type “application/x-mplayer2”. Because you don’t have a plug-in installed for this MIME type, this content can’t be displayed.

You advised me to install the Flip4Mac Component for Macintosh. I downloaded and installed that software. Then I went back and tried to get that same video to play. Again, I got the same response:

The page “God's News Behind the News - Airdate 05-27-08: IPC '08 - CanAmeriCo - Part 3” has content of MIME type “application/x-mplayer2”. Because you don’t have a plug-in installed for this MIME type, this content can’t be displayed.

Got a better idea?

Larry

Hi Larry,

What are you using to open the page you referenced? I presume it was the Safari browser. I also presume you had quit Safari before you install. It doesn't matter which browser you use the process is the same.

To confirm that you had installed the Flip4Mac plugin you can open your root Library folder at the following path:

/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/

You should see at least one file called "Flip4Mac WMV Plugin.plugin".

Alternatively if you had installed Flip4Mac only for your current user account the path to find the above file is:

~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/

Where "~" is your Home directory.

I hope this helped.

Hi Vinko!
I found the "flip4" download in the Macintosh HD folder and copied it to the Library folder you referenced. Now viewing the video works fine. Many thanks for your help.
Larry
