Emil,
Microsoft is no longer making Windows Media Player for the Mac. What you do need is Flip4Mac.
http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id...mac-wmv-player
Once installed it will convert the file and play it using Quicktime. It does a really good job of it.

I am still unable to view content- I was excited I thought the flip4mac would work but it didnt
THe problem could be that according to the Serie A TV tech: Mac OS does not support the digital Rights Management they use to secure content.
The exact error message I am getting is as follows : Safari cant find the internet plug in -- THe site "has content of MIME type" "application / x-mplayer2" Because you dont have a plug- in installed for this MIME type , this content cant be displayed..........
There must be away to load software to allow this media player to function ??????????????? or is there?????????? Do i have to buy another DELL THanks for all your help in advance Best Regards Emil

Emil,
Yes, there are some files that the Mac can not view, but there is a way to tell Quicktime to attempt to play those files.
Go to System Preferences (light switch in the dock) and click on
Flip4Mac. It should be listed under the Other.
Now click on the Browser tab and make sure Use Flip4Mac WMV browser plug in is check marked as well as Maintain aspect ratio.
In the Player tab make sure Open AVI files is checked.
Now click on Show all at the very top and then click on QuickTime.
Click on Advanced tab then at the very bottom click on MIME settings.
Streaming, Video, Audio, MPEG, MP3, and Miscellaneous are all checked.
Now close the window, and open Safari and give it a try.

Ok --THanks for your help again but I am still at a cross road
I followed the steps to the browser in Flip mac4- My PC wont allow me to click on ".....WMV Browser Plug in"
The bubble message says " Disabled because the windows Media player 9 plug in is not installed..... I tried researching the net it says flipmac4 is the plug in-- I see it on my computer under other it is installed ???? I also previously tried installing the media player but I m not sure it is installed -It shows up as a file (s) under my downloads---- Maybe i am part of this problem -not used to Mac --- Any help is appreciated THANKS !
Cheryl - Mar 24, 2008 - 5:58 am
Emil,
What you see under Other is the control panel. There are other files that get installed as well.
You need to have the Flip4Mac WMV Browser Plugin installed in the Hard Drive>Library>Internet Plugins. The icon will look like a plain file or document.
Look in Home>Library>Internet Plugins. This folder is for plugins that work only for you, but sometimes the browser just doesn't look there for the plugins (not sure why). If that is where your plugins are, you can just move them. Just open a second window (go to File>New Finder Window). In the new window go to Hard Drive>Library>Internet Plug ins. In the previous (first window) drag the plugins to the new window. Now close the windows, and give Safari a try. You may need to quit Safari in order for those plugins to be 'seen'.

Okay- I have moved the flipmac folder to two areas and have come out with my same problem
1) I took the flip4mac from my download file and dragged it to the hard drive under library -internet plugins ( it looks like the hard drive internet plug in file contains all my plug ins) then I also opened up the New Finder Window went to Library then internet plug ins (the file was empty ) so i tried dragging the flip4mac icon into the empty internet plug in file -- Both times I also tried to open the flip mac and then tried to get into the browser tab (that i couldnt get into before -Still wouldnt let me in )
In each scenario I tried to see if safari would allow me to access the content of serie a tv -- But I received the same MIME plug in message.............. Thanks for your continuing help - Maybe I am doing something wrong ???????

Emil,
All your plug ins should be in Hard drive>Library>Internet Plug ins. Please keep them there.
What is the web address of the video you are trying to view? Let me see if I can view it and determine what you need.
Cheryl
ejpusateri - Mar 24, 2008 - 9:18 pm

Emil,
It is not .com at the end of that url.
Here's the correct url
http://www.seriea.tv/pubb_EN/index.php?
Anyway, I was able to see the video - a bit choppy but there.
it could be you are missing a plug in.
Open Hard drive>Library>Internet Plugins and give me a list of what you have. Then I can determine what you need. It could be that one of your plug ins needs to be updated. What OS version are you running?
Cheryl
ejpusateri - Mar 24, 2008 - 11:26 pm

Emil,
You do need a couple of other plugins. I will get the url for you to download them this evening.
First, you don't have the Flip4Mac installed correctly. What you have is the package but not the plugin in the folder.
Move the Flip4Mac.WMV.mpkg to the desktop. (Just click on it and drag).
Now close the windows and click twice on the mpkg icon.
Follow the prompts. Allow it to do the easy install.
Once done, that Internet Plug in folder should have Flip4Mac WMV plugin.plugin listed.
Now give it a try.

Emil,
That is good news ! Now all you have to do is check the Flip4Mac control panel in System Preferences to make sure your settings are set correctly for your internet connection and your preferences.
As for the archived files, I am not sure. It could be that you need a few other plugins.
Java Embedded plugin
http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id...bedding-plugin
Shockwave
http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id...ockwave-player
Let me know how you do.

We have come a long way -- you have been a great help
I downloaded shockwave file (on the desktop this time)
And the Java plug in -which went into my download folder
I checked preferences for Flipmac-THe first box is checked off in light grey (font) cannot change--- the first box Which states : Flip4Mac WMV Browser plug in Setting-the Flip4mac browser plug in will be used to play all windows Media content within you web browser
The third box is checked off maintain aspect ratio- Movies will be scaled to fit the embeded box while maintaining original aspect ratio
THere are two other boxes to launch Quick time and "Always show movie controller that are not checked
I stil cant view full screen and cant retreive the content(games) that have been played this past weekend---- I assume the live games will not work this weekend?? but i will try
THanks

Emil,
Now you have to install those plugins. First click twice on the Shockwave file that is on the desktop. Just follow the prompts. Once done, you can drag the file that is on the desktop to the trash.
Next, go to your downloads folder and click twice on the Java Plugin file.
Just follow the prompts.
Now you should be all set. Just give it a try.

Shockwave has been installed -The Java plug in opens to two file folders and four text type docs - The two folders are labeled Bianaries and source - I m not sure how to activate this download there are no prompts Thanks EMIL
Cheryl - Mar 26, 2008 - 9:55 pm
Emil,
Place those two folders in Hard Drive>Library>Internet Plugins.
Go to File and select New Finder Window and go to the above.
In a second finder window you should be in Downloads - or where those folders are.
Now just drag and drop the Java folders in the window of the Internet Plugins.
You should be all set.
Cheryl
Cheryl - Mar 26, 2008 - 9:56 pm
Emil,
One thing, you should quit Safari, then launch it to make those plug ins active.
Cheryl
ejpusateri - Mar 26, 2008 - 10:27 pm
For some reason the source folder vanished - I checked the internet plug in file and only the bianaries folder was present - THere doesn't seem to be enough room ??? in that file
Its ok to put the shockwave player into trash----? I also notice that the Java plug in (zip file) was in trash
THanks

ejpusateri - Mar 26, 2008 - 11:10 pm
OK- I was able to pull the java download back onto the desktop and drag the source folder into hard-drive-library-internet plugins - So both the bianaries folder and Source folder are there ----(I checked the source folder there are two internet plugins in that folder) Do they automatically become active once they are in the internet plug_In Folder??
I also checked the "disabled plug ins Folder " Previously Empty --- But this time the folder NP-PPC-Dir-Shockwave was there??? I this a problem ?? Anyhow thanks for your help tonite -turning in - Hope to hear from you sometime tomorrow
EMIL
Cheryl - Mar 27, 2008 - 6:09 am
Emil,
Yes, the disabled folder should have that file. The installer of Shockwave took the old file and placed it there. It installed the updated version of the plugin.
In the olden days, we had to restart the computer any time we added something to the system. That is not the case with plugins anymore. Just launch (start up) your browser (Safari) and it should take effect immediately.
The installers - those files you downloaded - can be trashed. Those files have either installer in the name or .dmg at the end of the name.
Let me know how you do with those archive files.

I was wondering if you could give it a try- You may see something in your settings that will work- I guess it gives me the highlight content -(can see Loading....) at top of page---- But will not play the paid for content ---- If you can go into schedule you will see the scheduled games for this weekend - If you click on Prev(previous) it will show you the games that were played this past weekend . Click on watch for any game -Then look to the lesf for LOG IN My Log in name is

Emil,
Thanks for getting back to me. I was able to log in and those pay to view videos do not play on my machine. The ads all load.

Even trying Ful Screen does nothing. Checking the source did not help since the video doesn't even try to load.
I think you are stuck watching on your Dell if you want to watch those videos on that site. I am sorry I could not be of more help to you.

Emil,
There are some web sites that do not double check their pages to make sure it is multi platform. It is sad, but true. You could try using the Firefox browser on the Mac. Some web sites that do not work with Safari do work with Firefox. I have several web sites that I can not access in Safari, but works in Firefox. (I didn't think of using it last night).
Would you like me to close this ticket?
