Description:
I am volunteering at a high school helping keep a 40 computer, 8 printer, Workgroup Server network running.
The net was established by rounding up all the strays.
I need to convince the administration that it is time to upgrade hardware.
There is a Mac iiVX, 530,550,575,630 LC's clear up to one G3.
They try to put the kids on the Internet but a lot of the machines aren't capable.
I need minimum CPU speed and RAM quantity data to convince them. Can you refer me to a source.
I know it's pretty basic but haven't been able to locate any current information.
thank you.

I am the Mac manager for our university. We have about 900 Macs on campus. This includes Faculty, Staff, and Labs. To be connected to our network we have a min requirement of an '040 and 16 MB RAM (32 MB rec) and Mac OS 7.6.1. If you are dialing in from the outside world, we give a little more leaway. The min is an '030 16MB (32 rec) and 7.5.5. In reality I try and get people to upgrade to atleast a PowerPC 601. The lower models will work, but very slow!!! And with the prices of G3's so cheap.
As of next year, we are going to require all network connections to be made through a PowerPC. The 68k will no longer be supported.
I can get some docs we have if you need them.
Hope this helps.
