KNOWLEDGE LEVEL: Intermediate

PROBLEM: Software
COMPUTER TYPE: IBM Compatible
MODEL: AMD K6 300mhz
RAM: Not related
OS VERSION: Windows 95
SERVICE PACK: 1&2 IE 4.01

DESCRIPTION:

Dear People,

When I hit the Start button about half the time I get an mmsystem.dll general protection fault error. Then I need to hit CTRL-ALT-DEL and reboot. I've tried reinstalling Windows and also the IE 4.01. This seems to help for about a day, but then it starts acting up again. Any help would be appreciated. You guys are GREAT!!

Thanks
Kevin

Hello Kevin, thanks for using No Wonder!
Have a try at the following, one by one to see if you can isolate the problem...
1. Disable any screen savers that you may have.
2. Carry out a *.TMP find on the c:\drive and delete all, (some of these, windows will not let you delete).(keep the deleted .tmps in the bin for a while to make sure that your machine doesn't require any of them)
3. Disable Active Desktop.
4. Move all the items in your startup folder to a newly created folder and load them back in one at a time a just see if you can reproduce the problem and relate it to one particular application. Tedious I know..!
Can you recall loading an application and or hardware prior to this problem arising?
Please let me know how you get on,
Regards,
Bob Parkin.
