OS Version: MacOS 8.1
Description:
I have the global village 56 modem
At start up it makes that awful but necessary noise
I have shut of the sound using the control panel but in the moedm but that does not seem to do it. Am I doing something wrong or is there another way to at least lessen the sound of the shaking of hands of the modems.

Hi George, welcome to Nowonder, I'm robertw.
Go into the System Folder, into the Control Panel Folder, double click the Modem Control Panel, there should be radio buttons for sound ( on - off ).
