Greetings,
I'm experiencing a frustrating problem with my Dell 2405FPWide Flat Panel monitor. Since upgrading to 10.4.8 the display wouldn't wake up from sleep mode (lengthy, overnight only) and I'd just get a black screen (although it sounded like the CPU was powering up and working fine) ... but after visiting the Apple discussions boards I've done some troubleshooting ... and today, the Monitor DID wake up from sleep ... but the display was a pixelated mess (?)

To date I have verified and repaired all permissions. I've zapped the PRAM. I've RESET the SMU and the NVRAM and I have deleted the PowerManagement.plist ... but this problem still persists, and it requires a restart to correct (which is maddening) Could it be an extension conflict? The video card? Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.

Greetings to you too Jason,

This problem JUST started when you upgraded to 10.4.8? I'm inclined to think this has to do with the cable you run between your tower and the monitor? Is it in good repair? You might try a new DVI cable just to see if it makes a difference.

Also, in System Preferences>Displays. Make sure your Display preferences are set correctly.

Just for kicks, try trashing this file: com.apple.systempreferences.plist
MacintoshHD>Users>Library>Preferences. Open the Preferences folder, locate that file, drag it to the Trash, empty the Trash and reboot. (You are obviously an experienced Mac user but I include the infomation anyway).

Also, I just discovered some info in the Mac System Profiler. There's another preference file that could be causing problems. Here it is:
com.apple.preference.displays Here is that path:
Location: /System/Library/PreferencePanes/Displays.prefPane

How old is your video card? That could well be the culprit. Also, look for the preference file for your video card and Trash that.

Have you downloading and reinstalling the drivers for the display from Dell?

Hopefully I've come across something that might help you. If not, post back and thanks for choosing Macosx.com!

Regards,
Carolyn :-)
