My monitor is an LG Studioworks 775N used via an adapter with my Power Macintosh 9600/350 (bit ancient I know).

My monitor has suddenly decided not to come on. The light is on but no image appears. It seemed to be flickering a bit last time I used it, but now nothing. The light on the front goes orange. I have tried the plugs, turning the computer and monitor off and on, and am now stuck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Most likely the monitor has died. I had an LG Studioworks monitor as well but I'm not sure if it was that exact model. It died on me a few years ago. The screen would be mostly black except for a white line across the screen.

To verify this you can borrow a monitor from someone and hook it up to see if it works or not.

If not then you know it's your monitor. I have a feeling that maybe that model of LG monitor may not be very good as mine went as well.

Hello Captain Code,

Thanks for your reply.

I had the same problem yesterday, but left the computer on all day, I then switched off, and decided to switch on again and lo and behold it came on. I have just tried tonight and nothing. The light goes straight to standby orange, this seems to be the problem. I don't get a white line.

Thanks anyway

Best Wishes

Mine did that for a while too and then quit altogether. I'd still say try another monitor to see if it's really the monitor or something else.

Hello again Captain Code,

Thanks for your further e-mail. Doesn't sound too promising does it. I don't know anyone near who has a monitor, but I do have another one on my PC, it is a Sony 17" which actually came with the Mac (Cast offs from my daughter, she always uses a 20" for her work. I had to get an adapter, but couldn't get the Sony to work with it. The LG (which was on my PC) did, so that is the one I ended up with. I believe my daughter is about to give me her next cast-off a G4, so I hope that one has a monitor with it. I'll see what I can do with the Sony, but not much hope.

Thank you very much for your help and advice.

Best Wishes

Barbara
