Knowledge Level: Expert but stumped
Problem: Combination
Computer Type: Apple
Model: PM 7600/120
RAM: 65+
RAM Enhancer: None
OS Version: MacOS 8.1

Description:
I have recently connected a second monitor (an AV 750 added to my existing 1710 AV) to my system via a ATI 3-D card (4mb). I am experiencing a scrolling horizontal band on each monitor. This line is a slightly darkened, moving line about 1/4 in in width. It scrolls through both monitors in about 12 +- seconds... doing a mirrored image effect... on my main monitor it moves from top to botton and on the second monitor is goes from bottom to top and continually repeats. I have seen this on another system set up similiar to mine!
I do graphics and teach Mac stuff... If this is something that two monitor users must put up with I can live with it , but I would rather live without it !!!
Thanks in advance...

Dear mbishop,

First, try powering up the monitors before starting the computer. Have the 2nd monitor connected to a wall socket that does not have any additional devices attached.

If that does not help, power off the computer. Remove the ADB cable attached to the 1710 monitor. Wait 10 minutes, then reinsert the cable, turn on the monitors, then turn on the computer.

If you continue to have trouble, zap your PRAM at startup by holding down Option+P+R.

You should also have the most current versions of your driver software for the both Apple monitors and the third-party card (Note: With MacOS 8.1, you have the latest release of the Applevision display sofware.) If not, you can download the latest updates from each companies' web site.

Go into your Extensions folder (located in your Systems Folder.) Locate the Applevision Display Extension. Add a space in front of this extension so it loads first. This may, quite possibly, prevent a conflict that might be happening with the card.

If you still continue having problems, contact Apple about getting your AppleVision 1710 monitor serviced. There is extended warranty coverage for this until December 1998. If you suspect a hardware problem I would contact Apple immediately.
