let me start by saying i have owned my ibook for only one year and about a month, that being said, i recently purchased final cut pro 5 and motion 2. Final Cut works execellent on my laptop however motion 2 does not work because of my graphics card.I have an ATI Mobility Radeon 9200 and it requires atleast ATI Mobility Radeon 9600. i have called apple care and been to an apple store and was told by two people to buy a new laptop and 1 person said ask someone else. this is crazy, not only is my laptop barely a year old, but because i am a student and went for mobility with a laptop i have to buy a whole new computer to run newer software. this can't be right, does anyone know of any alternatives i could take and if so about how much it will cost??? i'm a poor college student trying to start a minor in film and i know that motion is not nessicary i would love to be able to use it, please help.
The issue here is that you are attempting to use pro-level software with a consumer portable. The Pro Apps for video are built to exploit every little ounce of juice that there is in your system's GPU.
This, of course, doesn't mean that you have to give up portability to run the professional applications you want to run. For the portables, you'd want to use a PowerBook, or even better, a MacBook Pro. You could run these applications on any machine with the power of the new Intel iMac Core Duo and higher. All of the professional applications will be available as Universal Binaries this coming month.
If I were you and I have been in your shoes, I'd consider eBay and using an EDU discount on a MacBook.
Hope this helps!

Thanks alot this does help. my only question is what is a EDU discount and how much could i get for a used g4 ibook with tiger?
I'd just take a look on eBay for iBook auctions with specs similar to yours. If you have AppleCare on the unit, that'll help your resale value as well.
An EDU discount is the discount that Apple gives to all students and personnel at educational institutions. If you go to store.apple.com, take a look on the right hand side of the page and you should see a link for educational customers.
