I have four users setup on my machine and the two have restricted privilages. I have some disk images of games that I would like to always have mounted so that my kids don't have to keep swaping the original CD's in/out. I can easliy mount them from my account but when I log out or switch users the image unmounts.

My question is how do I mount a disk image so that is stays persistant and is available to all users until I decide to unmount it?

Hello there, Hopefully this may be of some use to you:

I think the best way for you to get round this problem is to create a workflow in Automator and save it as an application.

There are two ways of going about this, this is the one that I suggest:

i. Open a finder window

ii. Locate the disk images that you want to mount.

iii. Hold down the command (apple) key and select all of the images that you want your children to be able to mount

iv. Right click on the selected images (or if you only have a single button mouse press the control key and then click with the mouse button - this acts like a right mouse button).

v. Scroll down the list of options brought up by the right mouse click until you find the automator then click on the 'create workflow' option (which I believe is the only possiblt option). An Automator window will open up with the images that you want your children to be able to mount in the window on the right hand side.

vi. In the far left hand side window there will be a list of Applications - chose the Finder

vii. Find 'Mount Disk Image' in the middle column of the Automator window, which is labelled 'ACTION' and double click on it - this will create a workflow which will mount all of the disk images that you wish to mount.

viii. In the menu bar at the top of your window click file and then select 'Save As' - you will have the option to save the workflow as an application, which I suggest you do - you can then create a shortcut to this and place it on your childrens desktop, when they click on it the disk images will automatically mount.

I hope this helps

Happy New Year, all the best
