Knowledge Level: Intermediate
Problem: Software
Computer Type: Apple
Model: iMAc Rev B
RAM: 32meg
RAM Enhancer: None
OS Version: MacOS 8.5.1

Description:
I have seen reports of this problem on MacFixit but no solutions. I upgraded my iMac to Mac OS 8.5.1 then installed the firmware upgrade (subsequent attempts lead to firmware up to date message) but when I try to upgrade to 1.1 the keyboard and mouse freezes just before the first extension loads.
I have booted up several times from the CD and reinstalled the HD image then done the whole lot again using newly downloaded copies of the firmware and 1.1 upgrade.
I know how to do it as I did the whole thing on my wife's new Rev B iMac yesterday but it just wont work on mine.
I guess that it is not essential to go to 1.1 but it would be nice to know what is preventing it. I would be very grateful for your thoughts on this.

Kevin

Hi Doc, welcome to Nowonder, I'm robertw.
I've seen this problem numerous times and haven't found a fix other than not to use this update. If you're not having any problems with USB devices, I wouldn't worry about it.

Also, when you tried to install it, did you have any Virus or Security software running?
