Isync is not working in my usual user account (an admin account).
I created a new admin account with a different username, and it works ok. So, I need to transfer all my files/programs etc. from the old account, to the new one.
Could you please suggest the best way to do this smoothly, to avoid problems with privileges, passwords, mail, etc.?

thanks a lot.

This is the most generalized approach to solving a problem I've seen so far It deserves a sticky on the forums if it ever gets solved without any complications!

Sorry if this reply created false hopes of a quick fix, but it's such a big issue and has so many potential applications it deserves some attention.

Calavera,

My name is Cheryl and I will be assisting you.

First, you have to delete the old user account.
System Preferences and click Accounts.
If some settings are dimmed, click the lock icon and type an administrator name and password.
Select the user account you want to delete, then click Delete (-).
Click OK to save the user's files on the computer, or click Delete Immediately to remove the user account and all the user's files.

If you saved the user's files, they are stored in a disk image in the Deleted Users folder, which is in the Users folder on your Mac OS X disk. To see the saved files, double-click the disk image in the Deleted Users folder.

Now you can open the folders and drag the files to your home folder.

Calavera,

It was also suggested (from a fellow Tech) to back up your old user home folder first before you do any of the above.

Open terminal, and type in this command like the following -

cd ../ -- this should get you to all the user accounts, since Terminal starts in your home dir
ls -- to see all the accounts

Now pick an account (USER_NAME), and type the following command -

sudo ditto -rsrcFork USER_NAME "USER_NAME bkp DATE"

This will copy all the account's info and keep the permissions in place. Then, simply zip the bkp file and copy it to a disk where you can move it at will.
