I've just discovered how much can be done to create an interesting slideshow in iPhoto. Will be traveling in England for several weeks and want to improve on an already created slideshow by editing, timing, etc. as well as adding new images to make it more complete.
I want to move the iPhoto slideshow from my G5 to a laptop. Do I also have to download the Album which contains these images (or even the complete Library)? Or, does a slideshow stand on its own and permit editing and adding additional images which can then be moved back to the G5?
By the way, is there a really good book about using iPhoto?

Alan,
Yes, you can 'export' your slide show and or photos from iPhoto.
1. Select the photo or photos/slideshow you want to export.
2. Choose Share > Export.
3. Click the File Export button at the top of the Export Photos window.
4. In the File Export pane, change the desired options:
Format: Choose a file format for your exported images from the Format pop-up menu.
Size: If necessary, scale images to a specific size by specifying a maximum width and height.
Name: Choose whether to export photos with their filenames, iPhoto titles, or album name. Select the "Use extension" checkbox to add the file format extensions (such as ".jpg" or ".tiff") to the end of the photos' filenames, titles, or album names.
5. Click Export.
6. Choose a location for the photos you are exporting, then click OK.
You can save it to a zip disk, a flash drive or even burn it to a CD/DVD.

As for a good book, David Pogue is one of the leading authorities on Mac and he does have a book for iPhoto.

I hope this helps you.

Cheryl, I'm not sure whether this will get to you, but here goes!
Your answer was helpful, but it still leaves open some questions. You say I can export to a zip disk, flash drive, or cd/dvd, but no mention of moving it to a laptop. Further, once I get it to the laptop, is it still in slideshow format so that I can edit it and add images? Further, assuming I can edit and add images and finalize the slideshow, can I import it back into my desktop G5? Will it still be in slideshow format?
Also, you did not mention whether having the slideshow on a different computer requires me to copy either the Library contents or the original Album also on to the laptop.

Alan,
I am so sorry you have been experiencing trouble with our site. We have found and corrected some bugs with the new coding we are using. Hopefully this has corrected things. We have noticed that if you use Internet Explorer as your browser, things do not work as they should. We are asking that you use a different browser at this time.
Yes, you can move the slideshow to a laptop. Once you export the slide show, you can not edit it. Using the Export option, the slideshow is created to a Quicktime movie. Using the Send to DVD creates a slideshow movie that can be played on any DVD player.
In order to edit the slide show you will need to copy the album and the album-data file to the laptop. Then adding and/or deleting images create a new slide show.
Your album is stored in Home>Pictures>iPhoto Library>Albums
You then can export the slideshow file to the G5 - but remember to also copy and move the album and album-data files with the added pictures if you want to create a different slideshow using the same pictures.
Please note, that in order to respond to me, you need to be logged into the macosx.com site. Once logged in, just go to My Account>and under My Account Options, click on My Questions. To use the Quick Link in the email, you need to be logged in to the site. What many people are doing is not logging out. Then the Quick Link will work.

Cheryl,
Thanks for he very helpful response. This helps me decide whether to go to the trouble to edit "overseas." Just wish Apple had made it a bit easier!
I'm closing the question.

Cheryl,
Sorry to bother you again, but I decided to try to move the files to the laptop.
Unfortunately, I cannot locate a file called album-data. Can you help me find this or tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Alan,
First, I suggest rather than moving the files, use the Duplicate command from the file menu. Just click on the file, then go to the file menu and select Duplicate. A copy of that file will appear next to the original. Move the copy to the laptop.
Now to make things easier use the Duplicate command to copy the entire iPhoto Library. This may take a bit of time, depending on the amount of files you have, but this will make sure you have all the images and data files.
Just go to Home>Pictures and click once on iPhoto Library folder. Now go to the file menu and select Duplicate.
Now move the copy over to your laptop.
