Hey guys,
I searched the forums but no luck. I'm having a problem after I move my entire iTunes folder from my Mac to my PC. My problem is that when I click on a song in iTunes, it says something like iTunes could not locate the file, would you like to search for it? The files are there, however...right in the folder where it belongs.
I have made sure that my default folder is correct.
Maybe simply moving the iTunes folder from Mac to PC isn't the way to move the library?
If not, then how can I move my library while still preserving my ratings, play counts, and playlists?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Robert
thanks for using macosx.com and I will try to help you...
The problem here is that you have set the path to the iTunes Library folder and the tracks are in there - but the iTunes library file (the xml thingy) isn't correct - I found the same problem when I sold my G5 iMac and changed to a newer intel one... even though the account was migrated and the actual library is on a shared network drive...
I found the easiest solution was to use the "Add to Library" command and then point to the itunes library... (I don't use any of the features you mention but I doubt play counts or ratings will survive this...)
I guess you could try migrating the iTunes Library XML file from the Mac to the PC (but I have little hope that will work as I think it is tied to the machine in some way)
Oh yes and if you are not going to use the Mac for iTunes don't forget to deauthorise it as one of the 5 enabled devices!
Hope that might give you some help.
Merry Christmas!

Thanks Serenak for a quick response!
It's so weird because when I do it my way, the songs show up with their ratings and play counts in my iTunes Library. For some reason, however, the path is getting all messed up and iTunes can't find my songs.
Is there any way that I can change the way iTunes sees it's folder? In other words, can I get into the program and make sure that the iTunes music folder is where it's supposed to be?
Maybe there's a script that you guys might know of that automatically searches your computer and reattaches the song in iTunes to the actual song on your hard drive?
I would hate to lose over 2,000 rated songs.
Thanks Again and Merry Christmas!

Sorry Robert....
on win I am out of my depth... and even on mac messing with the itunes library seems as much hit as miss to me... I don't really use iTunes that heavily - I stuff CDs into it and play em back.. sometimes on shuffle or sometimes by album, and that is about all I do...
If you want more advanced help I will chuck this back open to the other techs.
Sorry I couldn't help more - but with Xmas and all I just didn't want to see your question "rotting" as many techs are "offine" atm

Robert,
I found step by step instructions for you to make sure iTunes knows where the folder is at:
