Hi,
I've been using OS 9 for a couple of years and have accumulated quite a few songs in my itunes. I recently upgraded to OSX Tiger and I want to move all my songs to the iTunes under Tiger. I tried going in and doing a drop and drag on the folders from where they were sitting under OS9 to Tiger but even though I can see them there I got a message saying that I mightn't be able to move stuff from 9 to x - is there another way?
Cheers

Hi Tric,
In iTunes try Advanced>Consolidate Library. See if it works for you.

Hi Peter,
thanks for your quick reply. I did try that but to no avail!. I followed the path through to where my songs were but could only get as far the title of my albums(represented by folders) level and I couldn't move songs at that level. There didn't appear to be anything IN those folders either! Sould I try moving them while booted into OS9 rather than X? Would that make any difference?
Cheers

First you have to have Admin priveledges to do this. If you have identified the iTunes music files folder in OS 9 select it. In the finder go to file get info. In the pop up menu check if you are the owner in Ownership & Permissions. If not change it.
Do the same in the destination folder. By default the path should be your Home Folder>Music>iTunes. Be sure to click on Apply to enclosed items. This should take care of the Permissions Issue when you tried to move files.
When your done drag the OS9 iTunes Music Folder to the OSX iTunes Folder.
I'd appreciate a feedback after. ; )

Ok, I had no idea about the permissions thing but I did go in and try to reconsolidate my library. I found that the items had beeen shifted to the library as "unknown artist." So they were there, but not *listed* in the library. I did "add to library" and managed to see them all there. However, I will go in and check my permissions as you have suggested as I may want to move other things around in the future. Thank you very much for your help, this is a wonderful service!
