Hello,

I am running today on 10.4.11 and I consider moving to Leopard thru my hardrive reformatting (required by Leopard installer).

I wan't to get thru the same process that apply when you buy brand you macs ie : installer is proposing to put your old mac in target mode and to move all prefs... to the new system.

How can make this keeping my machine ? What king of system install should I go thru ?

PS : I can make every kind of back-up / clone / copy on my external hardrive...

Thank you

Hello Max

thanks for choosing to use us here at macosx.com and I will try to advise you.

I am not quite sure why you need to wipe the Mac - Leopard does not require this and the default install is in fact a simple upgrade writing over your current OS and leaving everything else in place. (Yes please do make a bootable clone of your drive first as such an upgrade can go wrong... One of my MacBooks simply stalled halfway and had to be reinstalled with the erase and install option)

If that is what you want to do simply back up your disk as a bootable clone with any suitable tool (Carbon Copy Cloner, SuperDuper! etc) then use the Options button to choose the Erase and Install (aka clean install) option. You can then migrate your old account and applications back from the clone with Migration Assistant if that is what you wish

Personally I would just go for a simple upgrade and if there are problems afterwards consider the longer and much more tedious Erase, Install and Migrate option

Hope that helps
