PROBLEM: Other
COMPUTER TYPE: nec
MODEL: 233 pentium mmx
RAM: 64meg
OS VERSION: Windows 95
SERVICE PACK:

DESCRIPTION:

When going to Control Panel, System then performance, shows Drive c running in msdos commpatibility mode. The computer seems to be working ok. Talked with Nec support, still under warranty and had computer checked out with service center. Said nothing wrong with computer, could be software related. No virus detected. Question is: how can I tell what software is causing problem without formating hard drive and restoring windows? Help details says windows does not recognize a driver and has switched to msdos compatibility mode. Says to take out program causing problem. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Wanda Branham

Hi Wanda,

The problem is being caused by a real-mode driver in one of your system files. Most of the time they are found in the autoexec.bat or config.sys so we will check those first. Could you please click on start then click on run then type sysconfig and then click on OK. Could you please copy the contents your config.sys and autoexec.bat files into an email and send it to me.
