I'm running a Mac G5 with OS 10.4 'Tiger'.
I have installed the latest version of MSN Messenger for Mac but I am unable to sign in.
When I click on the sign in option, I get the messenger icon with the spinning arrows for about 2 minutes, followed by an error message saying that either the service is not available or I am not connected to the internet. (I have an 'always on' broadband connection to the internet.).
I have signed up for a limited account with passport.net and use these details when attempting to sign in.
Many thanks,
Steve
Try connecting using another IM client like Adium X (
http://adiumx.com). See if that resolves your problem?
Thanks for your suggestion, which I tried.
I tried 3 different MSN addresses, all with the same result when I tried to sign in:
Gaim Error : Connection error from notification server. Writing error.
Curiously, I then decided to look at Yahoo Messenger and I found that I was also unable to sign in to this either.
Any further suggestion?
Thanks again,
Steve Johnston
Go into System Preferences>Network and make sure the connection selected is the one for your broadband connection. If it isn't, select it. You may also have to forward the ports for the connection through your router. Seeing as you have to both send information (for which you don't have to forward ports) but you also have to recieve it (your buddy list, who IMs you, etc, which has to be forwarded to your computer).
http://portforward.com/ is a great place to gather this information. They also have tutorials for forwarding ports on many, many routers.
