I am trying to burn a multisession DVD using Disk Utility. The Help instructions say:

"Normally, you can burn items to a recordable disc, such as a CD-R, CD-RW, or DVD-RW, only one time. However, if you use Disk Utility to burn the disc, you can burn items to a disk in more than one session as long as space is available. This is also called multisession burning.

1. In Disk Utility, create a disk image that contains the files you want to burn to the disc.

The files must be from a volume with a Mac OS Extended disk format.

2. Select the disk image in the Disk Utility list and choose Images > Burn.

3. Select the "Leave disc appendable" checkbox. If you don't see this option, click the triangle in the top-right corner.

4. Insert a blank recordable disc in the optical drive, and click Burn.

**My volume is OS Extended.

**I created a burn folder and made a disk image out of that. The DVD burned no problem but I couldn't do multisession because "Leave disc appendable" was grayed out. My DVD is a Verbatim DVD-R.

Do you know how I can get the "Leave disc appendable" to become available?

Thanks very much,

You cannot make a multi-session DVD; only CDs. I've searched far and wide for an alternative solution. I think DU's Help is poorly written. Plus, you can burn to CD-RW and DVD-RW more than once when you erase in between.

Are you getting the impression that this really is possible? I'm curious to know if you've found a source with a new answer.

Thanks for your response. The Mac DU documentation is definitely misleading. I just did some research and found out that according to the reviews, Dragon Burn 4.1 will burn DVD+R multi-sessions. Unfortunately, my Powerbook is a little older and will only burn DVD-R. Dragon Burn got mixed reviews on Versiontracker. Hopefully someone will write some reliable software for multisession DVDs.
