Description:
Whenever I reboot, either starting up after shutdown, or restarting from the special menu, or hard-rebooting after a crash, the system starts in "muted." That is, there is no sound coming out of the internal speakers. Every time I have to go to Control Panels->Monitors&Sound->Sound and uncheck the Mute box. I've tried re-building the desktop, Zapping the PRAM. I'd trash the Preferences File, but I can't find a prefs file specific for this Ctrl Panel. It's very annoying. Any suggestions?
On a similar note, the Chooser setup for my Epson Color Stylus printer always changes its port on restarting to the Modem port. When I go into the Chooser and re-choose the printer and re-set the port to Printer, it stays okay until the next time I restart, and then it starts up again wanting to communicate thru the Modem port. This is _especially_ annoying, since I don't even know there's a problem until I see that the printer is not responding, then I have to abort the print file, re-choose and re-set the right port, then re-send the print file.
I have a feeling these might be related, but I'm not sure how exactly. Any advice???

I have no idea what is causing the mute other than some type of ROM that has been designed to work this way. The Epson is a noted problem and is a problem in the Epson's driver. You should contact them for more information.
