KNOWLEDGE LEVEL: Intermediate

PROBLEM: Software
COMPUTER TYPE: various components
MODEL: 233 megahtz
RAM: 64meg
OS VERSION: Windows 98
SERVICE PACK:

DESCRIPTION:

My Defrag won't work.
When I run the defrag program, You can hear the sounds of the drive "running" but it will go on for over six hours and still has no "percent completed" in that "little thermometer type gage" that tells you how much is completed. I've read articles about speeding up applications and the importance of defragmenting my drive. These articles also recommend a defrag monthly and a more thorough defrag every 6 months.
Anyway, I've had Windows 98 for several months and cannot do a simple defrag. What can be going wrong here?
Any help would be appreciated. I really don't have any problems that I can say I am having because I cannot do this... I just am wondering why its not working and could this be a future problem?
Thank you. Andrea Corridoni

Andrea,

It is working, but Windows is optimizing everything for the first time, that is why it is taking forever. Let it run all the way through once (as long as the HD light is on it is working).

Sincerely,
James Kelley
