What I have learned about computers is what I've picked up from reading and just plain practice. I've been at it for about 5 yrs. (65 years old now). You get the idea?
My mouse seems to be sorta nonresponsive in some situtions. Hard to tell when it will act sluggish.
My Mac will not shut down, it will restart on its own. I have been cutting power when the "off mode" appears on the screen. When I turn the power on, it will automactically start.
I have recently hooked up to DSL.
Priot to hooking up to DSL, the computer would take 2 or 3 minutes to load when starting up. Now it loads in about 1 minute 20 seconds.
Its seems my problem started when I was printing several pages (normally do a couple at a time). The printer just stopped and I went thru all the hurtles to get it going. (It was frustrating, but it only required a restart to get going again.)
I have one of the old G-4s with a newer Hard Drive (80 Megs or whatever) was only 10. A little over 600 RAM. I have a wireless keyboard and mouse (logitech)
Tried Zapping the PRam (3times)
Thanks in advance
first try backing up important files and re-install the os, boot from a cd by holding c with the cd inserted during the normal boot process. once you have this done check the batteries in the wireless devices and make sure the receivers are connected properly, that might be why the mouse is being sluggish, could also be that another wirless device in the house is generating interference. I cant really provide anymore info unless i know what model g-4 it is and what os version your running. to find the os version just go to the apple menu and open the about this mac option. the model of g4 can be determined by speed and case, check speed form the about this mac menu, look for a button labeled more info, or something similar. the case should be a blue-ish gray or silver, the silver models have to cases one with mirrored(shiny silver) cd drive doors and the other just looks seamless, like theres no doors. some of the models have a few issues with power supplies, however ive never seen one that wouldnt shut down, this could be the wireless keyboard as well, used to use one at school on a dual 867mhz g4 quicksilver and it would randomly press the power button on the keyboard when the batteries got low.
I found out that the antenna for the cordless mouse needed to be sitting horizontally ( I had it mounted on the wall of the cabiinet)--Go Figure.
Also found out that my HP printer was the cause of the power switch not working=Go figure again. According to HP the USB plug must be in the tower (not a bus where it was connected when I called during its installation). I had recently purchased a longer usb cord and installed it to the tower. The switch would not function properly and the computer would not shut down without cutting power after shutdown (prior to restart).
I will be callinag HP about this situation tomorrow.
Thanks a lot for your time and trouble, your response is apprectiated.
