I just bought a house which has Verizon FIOS Cable service. I wanted to get their HD service and plug it into my Sony Bravia. So far so good.

But instead of TiVO, I wanted something that I can put on my Mac. so what I was thinking of was to buy a mac mini with 160GB and put it on my media shelf. Then hook the "?" device to my TV. Also, plug my external USB drives to my new Airport Extreme base station with Apple Disk enabled and finally link the Mac mini to the Airport Extreme.

This way, I can have all my iLife media stored on my External HDD, as well as an Net Link to pull down Youtube stuff + HDTV from Verizon FiOS with a TiVo like service. With Apple Remote Desktop - i might even be able to place shift somewhat though I doubt it. At the very least, I'd be able to control it when away from home. As a finishing touch, I want to add a Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse to check mail from my coffee table.

Ok so here are my questions:

1. Is this viable?
2. Is there a better, less convoluted way to do this?
3. What device ("?") is the best fit for going between my Mac Mini, Verizon HD connection and TV. Will it provide program guide etc.?

Thanks and best regards,

Sandeep

At least part of your needs should be met by the Apple TV, to start shipping next month. Check it out at the Apple web site.

Yeah, I thought of Apple TV and I'll most likely have it since it brings my Apple media to the TV but what what I need is to be able to bring it the other way as well - that is from TV to Mac similar to TiVo.

I know Miglia, Elgato and Eyetv offer a solution but I am not sure which devices I need to use and how I should arrange it all.

Regards,

Sandeep

I'm sure if you check at the Miglia or Elgato web sites, you will find enough information to help you. The Apple TV is not available yet.
You can also expect more responses (and opinions) if you post your questions on the main forums here at MacOSX.com
