I am very new to Mac, so bear with me if this is a simple question. I couldn't find the answer in the manuals or the help menu.
Is there something special I need to know to import movie files into iMovie? I assumed it would be like Movie Maker where you can drag and drop just about anything into your project.
I have a few .mov files that I downloaded off the web. They are grayed out when I try to import them.
Please advise.
Hi! Have you tried clicking on the .mov file and dragging it to your open iMovie project where all the squares are? (On the right). That's the usual procedure I'm familiar with.
Make sure your .mov files play in Quicktime. If so, then they should be good to go. If not, you might need to convert them to .mov. Changing the .dot extension by hand doesn't change the actual file.

Not saying you did this but it's happened before.
Let me know if this helps.
No, that doesn't work. The files definitely play in Quicktime too. I try to drag them into the area that says "drag media here to create a new project." But it won't let me do it with these files. Weird.
The files came from this site if it helps:

Thanks!
Do you have Quicktime Pro? You can upgrade the Quicktime on your computer and then you can cut clips there which you then save out and import to iMovie.
Are you dragging your .mov files to the squares on the right of the iMovie interface?
