I accepted an upgrade to Quicktime 7.1.3 which was offered in
my monthly official Apple recommeded upgrades alert.
I have done this once before, about 2 years ago, and had to revert
to Quicktime 7.0.1 because some of my software will not open in
Quicktime 7.1.3 [specifically: PokerPages.com, a poker site which
includes the all-freeplay site PokerSchoolOnline].
In the past, I used a link which unistalled Quicktime 7.1.3 and
re-installed QT 7.0.1
But now I have lost that link and it seems to be no longer
available online. (There is still a link to where it is supposed to
be, but when I click on that, I get a 'Page no longer available"
message.)
Can someone please tell me how to uninstall QT 7.1.3 and revert
back to QT 7.0.1 ??
Help very much appreciated.

UPDATE
I found a "Quicktime 7.0.1 re-installer" at
www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/7991
However, when I attempt to install this,
I get the message:
You may not install this software on your hard-drive
because you do not have a suitable version of Quicktime
already installed.
I am not good at computers and I do not know what the
problem could be.
I was not able to solve my previous problem (cannot read
.pdf files because the type is microscopic and there is not
'magnifying glass' icon when I open them. When I download
them and attempt to open with Preview, Preview quits.)
This new problem (I accected an upgrade from Quicktime 7.0.1
to Quicktime 7.1.3 which does not allow some of my software
to open) is more pressing.
Please help, someone who can.
Thank you - choppichoochoo

Hi Earl

Read this and see if it works for you;

http://fox-gieg.com/tutorials/2005/undo-quicktime-7/

If this doesn't work, the only option would be to do an Archive&Install or completely reinstall your system.

Apple hasn't supplied an uninstaller for this version (yet).

bobw - my computer will not allow me to follow those steps.
every time I try to intstall Quicktime(anything) it informs me that I
may not install Quicktime(whatever) on my hard drive because it
already has a newer copy of Quicktime.
Now, that leaves 'Archive and Install' or 'Completely Re-install'.
Why do you list these as separate choices ? Is it a lot easier ot
'Archive and Install' as opposed to the other ?
Do you think that "archive and install" may not do the trick and I
will have to 'Completely re-install' anyway ??
Would you be willing to help me do one of these ?

Earl

Quicktime is integrated in the system and it's files are all over the place, that's why it's so hard to uninstall and Apple made some reinstallers.

This will describe Archive&Install;

http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/archiveinstall.html

A complete reinstall would be to reformat the drive and install everything fresh.

Try the Archive&Install first and let me know if this works, before reformatting the drive.

bobw - Well, I did it ! Starting with my original startup disk which came with
the computer - OSX 10.2 and then accepting about 35 upgrades and
add-ons and security updates . . . and then installing OSX 10.3 and taking the upgrades to 10.3.9 and then managing to get Skype back on (I quit my land-line phone so, had I not been able to get Skype working, I had not way to talk
to Comcast to get my email configured correctly) and then, finally, getting the
email up and running.
Now, everything, as far as I can see so far, seems okay - although everything looks a bit different.
I was able to open the PokerPages software (which Quicktime 7.1.x will not
allow) so my problem is fixed !
I have not checked yet to see if I can read .pdf files.
Well, thank you for your recommendation and I guess I was lucky and it all
went well.

One thing, I have EIGHT "Previous System" files on my hard-drive at this time.
Is it okay to just trash all of these ? - choppi

Earl

Yes, it's okay to trash 'Previous System" files, they're older from previous systems.

Now I see that I can only see email from the last few days in my in-box.
If I open one of the 'Previous Systems' files to try to find the rest of my
email, is there a risk that the later version of Quicktime will be activated and
I will have to do this all over again ?
Is there some other way to find my previous emails ?

Why do you have so many Previous Ssytem files?

Where are they located?

Do you use Apple's Mail Program?
If so, see if you can do an Import from a Previous System if the mails are there.

bob - I dont know why I have all those 'previous systems'.
I should open one of them and try to find my old emails ?
I think that is what you said.
So there is no risk of the more recent Quicktime version (contained in those
earlier systems) re-activating ?

Are the 'Previous System' files or folders?
Use the File Menu on each of them to Get Info and look at the Date to find the newest.

Right click (or Control click) on one of them and see if there's a 'Show Package' option.

The 'Previous System's are on my hard-drive and they have the 'folder' symbol. When I click on one of them, a window opens and shows:
Applications, etc, Library, mach, mach.sym, mach_kernel, private, system, users, var.
When I click on one of these, I get the choices: Open, Get info, Move to Trash, duplicate, make alias, create archive, copy, disable folder actions, configure folder actions, attach a folder action.
When I click on 'Open' (for example, Open LIBRARY): I see: CFMSupport, Documentation, Frameworks, Java, Modem Scripts, Printers, Screen Savers, WebServer, Audio, ColorSync, Filesystems, Image Capture, ... Quicktime (scary!) etc etc.
I hope I have told you enough for you to understand what these are and what they contain.
I am missing all of my 'TextEdit' files and this is really not good. I have a lot of work in these (creative writing) and important letters I have written and saved only in TextEdit.
Do you know how I can retrieve these files ?
Thanks for help - choppichoochoo

How do I retrieve my missing 'TextEdit' files (now that I have done an Archive and Re-Install of my whole OS ? Are these files accessible through my 'Previous System' file ?
Thanks for any help - choppichoochoo

Also, I think re-loading everything has solved my original problem: I can now
read .pdf files because they open with the magnifying glass icon and the 'next page' or 'page up' and everything, as they aught to.
And, of course it also solved the problem of rolling back from Quicktime 7.1.3 to an earlier version.
I would like to have Quicktime 7.0.1 again but I cannot find an installer for it.
I currently have 6.5.1
I am not sure how these messages work on MacOsx.com
Can other people besides bobw see these questions ?
If someone can find a Quicktime 7.0.1 installer (for people who have Quicktime 6), please show the link to it.
Thank you all, especially bobw, very much ! )

There is no download for Quicktime 7.0.x on the Apple site - not that I can see.
Someone mentioned a site which has older sofware downloads. I lost all my emails when I re-loaded my OS, so I no longer can find that info.
Can someone recommend other places to look for a Quicktime 7.0.1 download ?
Thanks - choppichoochoo

Still Looking For Quicktime 7.0.1 to install on my OSX 10.3.9 system
(Can't use Quicktime 7.1 due to software incompatibility issue)
The page bobw sent me the link to says it is available but when you click on
it, it says that it is no longer available.
Thank you for trying. Do you know of any other 'obsolete software' pages ?
Someone mentioned one, but I no longer have that email message available.

If you right click or Control click on the 7.0.1 reinstaller you'll get a download option. It worked for me using Safari.

In any case, if you can't get it, I've uploaded it here for you;

http://homepage.mac.com/maktek/Quick...eInstaller.bin

I'll leave the file there for a few days.

control-click on the Quicktime 7.0 Installer
or on the Quicktime 7.0.1 Reinstaller
gives me :
Parent Directory
Full Install
Web Install
I think I tried all three of these yesterday.
I will not allow me to put them on my hard-drive.
It says I do not have a suitable version of Quicktime already installed there.
I will go back and try again to confirm this.

The file is there and that is the correct URL.

I've just tried it with both Safari and Firefox.

Just click on the link above and it should download for you.

the links you send me, on the macosx.com pages
are not active.
I cannot cut and paste them, either.
So I have to type them in.
I am positive I did it correctly. (Tried it five times)
As for the links on the Apple page, clicking them takes me to the
Quictime 7.1.3 Installer page

This link is correct and works;

http://homepage.mac.com/maktek/Quick...eInstaller.bin

Right click on the link or Control click to 'Copy link location' then paste it into the URL bar of your browser.

bobw - This time, your link was active (the 7.0.1 Reinistaller)
and I downloaded it, same as yesterday. But when I try to install it,
I get this:
A picture of my HD [74.5 GB (67.3 GB Free) with a red exclaimation mark on it.
and the further text:
You cannot install this software on this volume. This disk is dimmed because it does not contain an appropriate version of Quicktime.
I think I need the link for the Quicktime 7.0 intaller, not the reinstaller.
I will not let me use the reinstaller link because that is for people who already
downloaded QT 7.1.x and found problems with it. so the reinstaller is only for rolling back.
But I currently have 6. something.

bobw - nothing happens when I control-click or double-click or any kind of click I know of. it is just text on the page.
I will attemp yet again to type it into my safari (1.3.2) browser and see if I can get it to work.
Thank you for your patience.

Apple pulled the Quicktime 7.0 installer, probably because of problems reported.

I haven't been able to find it anywhere.
