Description:
I have a PM 6500/250, 64mb of RAM, System 8.5.1. AOL is my internet connection but once on-line, I use either Netscape Navigator 4.07 or Communicator 4.5 for my on-line browsing. What has happened is that while running either, my cache is always having to clear itself after viewing a couple of pages. My cache size is set to 15 mb. I do a lot of browsing but not enough that my cache should fill up every few minutes. Otherwise, Netscape seems to working fine.
Thanks for your time.

Hi Omar,
That is an annoying habit of Communicator's. It's not actually clearing out your entire cache each time it's doing that. It's probably clearing between 45-125 files at once. (I believe it's purging sites and files that are the oldest all together.) On occasion Communicator will do a full purge which will prevent the sporadic purges you're talking about. There is a program available on the web that can up the memory cache of Communicator which will speed it up tremendously. I'm not sure if it will help cut back on those sporadic cache dumps though. (This is one area where MS Internet Explorer excels. It uses a single large cache file for its caching which is fast and not as disk intensive.)
Here's a link to that program on the macWorld download site. It should all be on one line.
