hello,

i am wondering as to how i should go about setting up a wireless network for a friend that just received a brand new PC, im assuming it is XP home, a G4 Mac, and an iMac.

the router he has is a linksys wireless router, unsure of which model. i am also unsure of the OS's of the two macs.

my friend basically wants to set up a home network to share internet, share files, and share a printer.

i was planning on setting up the router and printer on the PC, but what should i do from there?

The first thing is to get the router set up. You will find instructions in the manual to set it up. You will set the router up so that IT is the single point of contact with the service provider (ISP). The router will be the only device that authenticates with the ISP, so you will be setting up the PPPoE user and password on the router.
(Wireless security is an important step in setup, too, but I advise you to get all three computers successfully connecting to the internet before you add that extra variable.)

On Macs, go to System Prefs > Network Prefs > Show Built-in ethernet and set Configure IP (or IPv4 on 10.4) using DHCP. go to the PPPoE tab and turn it off. DONE.

On PCs, go to Start, Connect to > Show All connections> create a new connection > and make sure it gets IP address autmatically and don't give it a login userasword.

Come back with questions.

I'm not sure what you mean - have you started by getting internet working on all computers?

Printer sharing is a whole other realm - to help, I need to know what printers you mean and where they are connected.
