KNOWLEDGE LEVEL: Intermediate

PROBLEM: No Problem
COMPUTER TYPE: Micron
MODEL: Pentium Pro 200
RAM: 65+
OS VERSION: Not Listed
SERVICE PACK:

DESCRIPTION:

I currently dual boot (using System Commander) to either Dos (and then run 3.11) or NT 3.51. I want to only boot to Windows 98. The machine has a CD and a Jaz drive.

I think I need to reformat the hard drive - but am a bit skittish procedure wise. Is there another course of action? If not, then to formatthe HD:

create floppy by format a:\s
then add what? how do I get the cd to work to add Win 98?

I have a Jaz w/the original setup from Micron. I think Win 95 is on it - but from what I here I don't want to upgrade 95:98.

Your thoughts?

When you installed Win98, it asked you to create a floppy disk, did you? If you did, placee it in the floppy drive, and place your FULL version of Windows 98 in the CD-ROM drive, reboot your machine, the floppy will be read by your Micron, when it's done, it will tell you some files were loaded to an "imaginery drive letter and it will give you its name. Remember that drive letter, and when it asks you if you want to start Win98 using CD ROM support, YOU MUST SELECT YES.

Look for the contents of the imaginery drive letter either g: or d: and read it contents, they will be around 15 files, one of the them will be format.com, type it in as format c:
Before you do that , you MUST be able to read your CD ROM drive, if you can, go to it and use x: (where x is your CD ROM drive letter) and type "dir/w"
If you see setup.exe along with the other files, then you have CD ROM support, now you may format drive c: and install Win98 from your CD ROM drive by typing setup.exe after it's done formatting.

PS: Back up critical files (Quicken, Money etc.) before you format your hard drive, do NOT back up sys files though.
