I just recieved a hand-me-down eMac G4 and am wanting to take unnecessary applications off of the computer and was wondering if you might know what a couple of these are and if I can do without them. The first is OSXvnc, and it is some server software, but I'm using this computer strictly for personal use at home. Would it be safe for me to just delete it? Also, I own Norton Anti-Virus for my PC, is it necessary for my Mac as well? Thanks a lot for your help!

Hi Cody
You can just trash OSXvnc. It's a Remote Desktop program. Any program you want to get rid of, just drag to trash and empty.
If you want, you can post a list of all the programs/applications on the machine and I'll tell you what you don't need.
There are NO viruses that can afect an OS X system, so you don't need a virus program.
DO NOT use any Norton products on an OS X system. It's caused a lot of problems.

Great, thanks Bob! Here are the programs/apps that I am unsure of, if you don't know either, than that's ok.
A program called "Console" in the utilities section.
StuffIt Expander, also in utilities.
An app called "OnyX"
an app called "Cocktail"
That's all. Thanks again for taking the time to help me with this process. Have a great day!

Console is installed by Apple, don't trash that. You can use the Console utility to view your computer's log files. The computer uses log files to record error messages from applications and background processes. These files can help you troubleshoot problems that occur while using your computer.
Stuffit Expander is what is used to expand compressed files. Don't trash that.
Onyx and Cocktail are used for cleaning system files, clearing Cache files, Repairning Permissions, running the Cron scripts etc. You can open each to see what they do. I would keep one of them. Cocktail would be my choice to keep.
