I have a MacOSX Version 10.3.3(laptop) and an hp psc 1315xi all-in-one printer. I can print fine from my computer, but there are times when I want to cancel (not just quit) a job. I can find no way to do this.
I checked the printer user manual and all through Apple help. Apple outlined steps--Open System Pref, click Print&Fax, click Printing, then click Set Up Printers button. Double-clicking Printer List was supposed to give a status message next to the printer's icon. It did not. I've never been able to find anything about job status anywhere.
Hp's suggestion is to push the cancel button on the printer. This only appears to temporarily halt a job.
Today I had jobs gushing out of the printer from 3 months ago. The only thing I can do is let them all print before I can print what I want.
Do I have a compatibility problem with computer and printer?
Will appreciate any help.

Hi - Rob here - two steps you can try to fix your problem -
1. I checked out your printer at the HP website and the latest Mac OS X driver for Mac OS X 10.1 or 10.2 or 10.3 was released March '05. It can be downloaded here -
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...tem=oj-19842-4
2. I would also recommend that you go to Apple and download the 10.3.9 update here -
http://www.apple.com/support/downloa...pdate1039.html
Along with the 10.3.9 Java update -
http://www.apple.com/support/downloa...acosx1039.html
After installing new software - you should then open the Disk Utility application and repair permissions on your start-up disk.
Please let me know if these steps help -

I just read your feedback and am sorry to hear that nothing seems to be working.
The 10.3.9 update that you downloaded should install when you double click on the icon.
However - you must have the Mac OS X "installer" application on your Mac for this to work.
The "installer" application should be in the Utilities folder inside your applications folder. If it has been discarded by mistake - your installs will fail.
There are two ways to fix this problem - but first just check to see if you have the "installer" application on your Mac and reply to this thread.

Rob

Rob,
Again, thanks for responding so quickly and hanging in there with me.
I'm starting to wonder if I truly have OS X 10.3.3 installed on my computer (as it says in "About this Mac"). I tried finding the OS X installer on my Mac OS X 10.3.8 at work. It was just where you said. I came back to my home computer (where I'm having all the problems), and I can't even find the utilities folder. There doesn't appear to be any OS X installer when I type it into the Finder Q window.
When I type utilities into the finder Q window, I get "Parent" Application OS 9 is all, and some printer utilities, and xcode tools.
I hope I'm giving you the information you need. I'm quite over my head here!
Thanks,
Nancy

Okay - let's start at the beginning
Go to the apple at the top left of the menu bar and select "about this mac" or "about this computer".
This will take you to a screen that will tell you what system you are running - either Mac OS X or Mac OS 9.
If you are currently running in Mac OS 9 - go back to the apple and select control panels and then select the start-up disk control panel. If Mac OS X is also on the computer - and we think it is- it will show up - select Mac OS X as your startup option and click restart.
You should now be back in Mac OS X and the steps I sent to you should work.
Good luck,
Rob

Hi Rob,
I followed your steps and I am running Mac OS X.
Next, when I go to "Applications" and click, I see a list of items, but there is no "Utilities" in that list. I click all the > buttons to open all the folders, and still no Utilities in the first column. Some of the items there are Safari, iTunes, Internet Connect, Installers (folder), iMovie, etc. I look and look, but no Utilities.
I'm hoping the prognosis isn't bleak.
Thanks for hanging in there with the help!

So - click on the desktop to make sure you are in the finder - and then select find under the file menu and search for "utilities"
If the utilities folder is missing - you will need to
1. Reinstall Mac OS X 10.3 - using the archive and install option (retaining all users).
2. Install the 10.3.9 combo update that you previously downloaded.
3. Open the Disk Utility application (in the new utilities folder) and repair permissions on your start-up drive.
Good luck - and let me know how it all goes -
Cheers,
Rob

Rob,
It all worked. I am now running OS X Version 10.3.9. I have Utilities in my Applications. I downloaded the Java update and the hp printer driver update. I now have a Printer Setup Utility, which I didn't have before, and I can delete print jobs!
Thankyou so much. I will highly recommend this site to any Mac owner I know.
