Hi pugsly, welcome to macosx.com tech support.

Sad to say, the Nokia 6820 does not appear on the list of iSync compatible phones on the apple site at http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/isync/devices.html .Thats the site i have always used in selecting mobile phones to ensure the bluetooth works with my mac. This means that whoever you spoke to at the mac store clearly wasn't up to date on the subject. Was this an official Apple Store or a private reseller?

Looking around online, it seems you can get this phone to be recognised by the mac, but will not be able to sync with it, as i suspected. On the other hand, i think it should be able to work for web access if thats what you are after, but thats not so much my area of expertise.

It would also help to know exactly what computer and what system you are running. You can even get this to be generated and uploaded automatically using the nifty help application developed for this site, which is available at http://www.macosx.com/help/systemprofile.php . It would also help to know what process you had gone through in trying to make this work.

Either way, to get the phone and the computer talking, turn on bluetooth on the phone, and make it "discoverable" or "visible". On the mac, go to the bluetooth panel in system preferences. Turn bluetooth on, check the discoverable box, and for ease, check the box to show Bluetooth status in the menu bar. Now from the new bluetooth menu in the menubar, select "set up bluetooth device". This should lead you through an assistant to connect the phone to the machine. Once connected, you should be abel to use the phone for some tasks, though like i said, not synching. To use it for internet access, i suspect you will have to talk to your mobile provider to get the right number and settings, as they don't just connect to normal dialup accounts in my experience..

I hope this helps. If you let me know exactly what you have tried and what you are trying to do, i can either be of further help or pass this problem to people more familiar with your specific aim.

Regards,

Owen

Owen;
We have it working - no thanks to the apple support I'm afraid to say. After spending 3 hours at the official genius bar with no luck - they said we bought the wrong phone and should have one like he has ( which by the way was one of the old phone we had tried) at any rate we spoke with the cingular people who got it to work on there IBM thanks to BILL"S wizard-- but not the mac. how frrustrating. We have not gone to the dark side yet but we are no longer loyal mac heads.. Thanks for trying.

Hi pugsly,

I'm glad you were able to fix the problem, and fairly shocked at how useless the apple genius bar seem to have been with you. That said, its hard to find good staff, and i've even heard of apple techs directing people here to fix their problems .

I'll close the ticket now, but if you need any further help, don't hesitate to ask me or to post a new question.

Cheers,

Owen
