Description:
I downloaded and installed the most current version of Open Transport, and I was told by several people that I shouldn't have done so. I apologize, but I don't know the version number, but it is the most recent. Every since installing Open Transport, I have had nothing but problems and lots of crashes, especially with Netscape and my Claris E-Mailer. I want to remove it, but don't know how to go about it. I don't want to cause more problems. I would appreciate any assistance you can give me. Thank you so much.

Dear Patty,
Open Transport consists of files that are located in your extension folder. The most recent version is 1.3.1 but I find it hard to believe the installer would let you place it in a system 7.5.5 system folder. Perhaps the version you downloaded was 1.1.2. An easy way to check is to download the Conflict Catcher 4 demo from
. It's one of the few most important Mac utilities you can use. After you install Conflict Catcher you will be able to use it to give you information on extensions, including those that are part of Open Transport. If you still have trouble finding out this information after you download Conflict Catcher, please let me know, and I'll give you further assistance in this respect.
Did you also upgrade to 7.5.5 from an earlier version of system 7.5.x at, or about, the same time you upgraded open transport? Let me know if this was the case, because it will affect the information that I give you.
Do you have, perhaps on a CD-ROM, or otherwise on your hard drive, the prior version of open transport that you used?
Please also let me know what version of Netscape you are using and how much RAM is allocated to it. If you need help finding out this information, please let me know and I will tell you how.
Finally, why don't you download the "Help" demo from and run it on your hard drive. Send me a copy of the report as an attachment to e-mail. It will give me a lot of important information about your computer, including the version of open transport if you are otherwise unable to ascertain it.
Once I have the information requested in this message, I can give you advice on how to remove open transport and reinstall your prior version, assuming this is what we decide to do.
Best regards,
Samuel Sharp
