Knowledge Level: Expert but stumped
Problem: Combination
Computer Type: PowerUser
Model: External HD
RAM: Not related
RAM Enhancer: None
OS Version: Not related

Description:
I'm not sure what caused this problem... I think that my fiancee downloaded a virus. Whatever the cause, all of the files on my external became cross-linked. I reinitialized the Drive, and rebuilt the desktop, which (of course) cured most of the problem, however, the OpenFolderListDF file still comes up as a catalog B-tree error on Norton. Norton is unable to fix the problem and states that: "some files on this disk share the same space and are probably damaged." The program then suggests that I throw them away. When I attempt to do so through the find file program, the computer refuses to let me. How do I fix this? Thanx in advance for any help you can give me.

Suzanne Rhoads.

Suzanne,
My name is Cheryl and I will be helping you. That file is an invisible file in your preference folder. You can not drag that file to the trash. But you can try a trick that will replace that corrupt file. Go to the Apple Menu and select Stickies. Type something cool on a new note. Now go to the file menu and select Export text. Save it in your preference folder(in the system folder) and name it 'openfolderlistdf' You should get a dialog box stating that there is a file at that name do you wish to replace. Click on replace. Now quit the stickies and go into your system folder>preference folder and find the document named OpenFolderListDF and drag that to the trash. Now restart the computer. It might rebuild the desktop automatically and that is okay. Now you should run Norton to make sure the problem was taken care of.
Let me know how you do
Cheryl
