I am trying to open/decompress an Adobe .dmg file via my Mac's (OSX10.4.6) Disk Utility, but am having no luck.
the file came contained in "Adobe_Illustrator_CS2_ue.dmg," and ultimately opens on my desktop as "AI_CS2.pkg."
when I drag this .pkg file into Disk Utility to mount, a window pops up that says the document's extension needs to be changed to ".dmg." however, when I choose that option one of two things happen: I either get an error message that reads, "Unable to create "Adobe Illustrator CS2.pkg" - error -61;
OR
Disk Utility converts the .pkg file back to "Adobe_Illustrator_CS2_ue.dmg," and I loop back to where I began.
any suggestions?
thank you,
–KC
Not sure how you ended up with a disk image of Illustrator. But .pkg files are installation packages that open in Installer, not Disk Utility.

Hello Ben.
Thanks for the quick response.
The disk image is a 30 day trial directly from the Adobe website; it uploaded as a .pkg file.
Could you please send details on how to open the .pkg file in Installer?
Thanks.
Normally, I would just double-click it. It should have an open box icon. Installer is in your Utilities folder.
That was the answer, Ben. It worked.
Installer doesn't open automatically when I double-click the .pkg file, but, I did find it in my Utilities folder and was able to open the file manually.
Thanks a lot for your help and suggestion; They're really appreciated.
To prevent having the same problem in the future, be sure to Get Info on the .pkg file in the Finder and set it (and all files like it) to Open With Installer by default.
