Hi Paul

A .doc file is usually a Microsoft Word file. See if you can choose an Word app that you have on your system to open it. If you have MS Word, choose that, try TextEdit or Appleworks.

i have appleworks 6 v6.2.2(1991) if that is a current version. if i highlight the file icon on my desktop, select file, open with appleworks 6, it comes back as code numbers/letters. if i select text edit then a blank page appears. my safari settings under general are:default web browser-safari, save downloaded files to desktop, remove downloads manually and open links from applications. the line open in a new window is not checked. if possible i can forward the email message with the .doc file to see if you can open it. thanks!
