Under the default settings on my computer (mac OS X 10.4.9), when I downloaded PDF files, they would automatically open in Preview (without having to manually click open on the file in my download folder). I recently needed to save a file, without opening it, and accidentally selected the "always do this from now on" option on the dialog. Now, when I download PDFs, they just go into my Download folder, but don't open unless I click on them, which is a bit annoying! Is there a way to restore the default settings so that downloaded PDFs open automatically again?
Thanks,
G
Is the issue that you're using Safari and the General Preference item "Open 'safe' files after downloading" is no longer checked?

Actually, I'm using Firefox, but that's the kind of option that I've been looking for under Firefox's preferences. For some reason I'm not finding it. Under the preferences->content menu, there is an option to select how firefox handles certain file types, but PDFs are not on that list.
Also, is it possible that the problem is in some setting for the download manager, or Preview?
Here's the Mozilla Knowledge Base reference to
managing file types. Note the MIME Edit extension mentioned at the bottom. However, if in Firefox preferences, you choose to be asked where to save each file, then when next you download a PDF, the resulting window should contain the means to set the desired download action for PDFs.
